First up is the prediction from the model from the European Consortium for Medium Range Forecasting. It shows needed soaking rains over the drought region. It also shows unneeded rains over the middle Mississippi Valley.
The U.S.'s GFS model, if correct, is the worse news all the way around.
The two purple areas represent 6 to 8" amounts. Since the lower Ohio River is above flood stage, this additional heavy rain will not be helpful. Plus, in the drought area, less total rainfall is predicted.
