Marco Acuapan, 22, has died from injuries sustained in an Orange County car accident on November 17, 2010. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, Acuapan was riding westbound in a bike lane on Walnut near Browning Avenue in Tustin, when he was struck by a Ford Mustang driven by 65-year-old Renato Demartino. The driver fled the scene, but was arrested several hours later.
Acuapan suffered severe head injuries and never regained consciousness. He died the morning of April 7, 2011 from his injuries. Demartino pleaded not guilty to charges of felony hit-and-run with serious injury and making an unsafe turn or lane change and not using his head lamps at night. The District Attorney's office is still considering whether to file additional charges following Acuapan's death.
I offer my deepest condolences to the family members and friends of Marco Acuapan for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. Please keep this grieving family in your thoughts and prayers.
